Research Profile
Digital Engineering addresses the ideal interaction of
methods (systematic approach and procedures),
IT tools (functional
integrated tool chains),
models (suitable representations) and
processes (aligned workflows) in the development, production
and operation of technical systems. In research, we are engaged in designing this interaction, in particular using
technological drivers such as IoT, Advanced Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Services/Platforms.
Our
research focuses on the following topic clusters with application focus on
Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS)
and
Product Service Systems (PSS):
Product Lifecycle Information Management & Digital Twin Concepts
- Digital Twin Model Representation
- Feed Forward/Backward Information Flows
Systems Engineering Tools & Assistant Systems
- Model Integration of Structure, Function, Logic, Behaviour, Technology,…
- Design Automation/Generative Design
- Engineering-Manufacturing Integration
VR/AR & Advanced Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
- Individualized and Context Aware Information Provision
- VR/AR for Engineering, Training, and Education
The main goals of our research activities are, on the one hand, the complete model-based definition and description of complex
technical systems with their properties and behaviour and, on the other hand, the integration and optimization of IT procedures
for cross-domain and multidisciplinary product information management. Aspects of system modelling and information technology
integration of product development, production system development and production are considered holistically in the context of
research projects with industrial partners. This includes methods for the operational introduction of IT systems (PLM, ERP, MES)
as well as the reorganization of engineering processes in the industry.
To carry out our projects and student work, the chair has extensive hardware and software equipment. It consists of market-leading
engineering software systems from the fields of CAD, simulation, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Virtual Reality (VR) and
Augmented Reality (AR).
